Rock ptarmigan photographer
Kouhei Takahashi

Born in Hokkaido in 1977. He encountered the rock ptarmigan and taught himself photography. Winner of the 4th Yukio Tabuchi Taketo Prize. He has since labeled himself a “rock ptarmigan photographer” engaged in nature conservation enlightenment activities focused on the rock ptarmigan through photo exhibitions and other activities.

Norikura Hakuunso proprietor
Masanao Kobayashi

Born in Tokyo in 1979. From the time he was young he communed with nature through activities such as Boy Scouts and began living in a mountain hut as a university student. In addition to being the proprietor of the Norikura Hakuunso Inn, he is also engaged in activities as the manager of the nationally designated wildlife sanctuary, a nature guide at the national park, and a member of the municipal environment council.

Makoto Fukuda

Born in Tokyo in 1982. While a student at Shinshu University, he studied in the ecology research lab under leading rock ptarmigan researcher Hiroshi Nakamura. After joining the Ministry of the Environment, he became a nature conservation officer responsible for protection and breeding projects around the country. He is currently in charge of wildlife tourism promotion projects in the Wildlife Division of the Ministry.
