Route Guide

From the Honzawa entrance, where there is a parking space, follow an easy walking path through the woods. 10 minutes later, you will reach the Tengu Lookout. There are parking spaces for about 4 cars. The road is rough and you may get stuck if you do not have a high 4WD. Continue on the bumpy road.

Pass through the gate seen in front and enter the trail. It looks like you can park about 5 cars in front of this gate, but cars from Honzawa Onsen are parked there, so park out of the way. You will soon arrive at the Fuji-viewing platform with benches. Mt. Fuji can probably be seen, but the author has never seen it. If you cross a few short bridges built on the slope and pass the tent site of Honzawa Onsen, you will reach Honzawa Onsen. If you climb the slope slightly, you will reach the main entrance, and a rest area is set up in front of it. Let's take a rest.

Although you will go to the Natsuzawa Pass from the Honzawa Onsen, if you stay overnight here, leave your unnecessary luggage with us before you leave. To the Natsuzawa Pass, follow the signpost "outdoor hot spring of the Honzawa Onsen". If you proceed from the tree line while looking at the stream on the lower left, you will see the famous open-air bath. A bathtub full of wildness without any enclosure is impressive. If you want to bathe here, you must pay the bathing fee at the Honzawa Onsen.

Natsuzawa Pass is a dry stream-like area and you will follow the signposts to the top. As you enter the tree line, you will see the outdoor hot spring of Honzawa just below. Continue up the road and you will reach Natsuzawa Pass. The rest point is the place where you pass between Hutte Natsuzawa and Yamabiko-so. After a short rest, continue toward Neishidake. After about 30 minutes, you will meet the road coming up from Oren Hut at Mikaburi Mountain. Continue toward Neishidake. Neishidake is in front of you and the summit of Nishi Mt. Tengu-dake is to your left. After a short descent through the forest, you will reach the saddle where Neishidake Hut stands. Komakusa was in bloom, protected by a rope. From here, a wide trail leads to the summit of Neishidake. Although it has the image of a rocky mountain, you will have no trouble finding a place to rest. Spread out in front of you are the gentle peaks of East and West Mt. Tengu-dake.

From the summit of Neishidake, descend the rocky ridge. From the entrance of Shirasuna-shindo at the saddle, climb back up toward Higashi Mt. Tengu-dake. After passing through a rocky area and crossing an iron bridge from a gullied slope, you will reach the summit of Higashi Mt. Tengu-dake. The summit is wide and the main peak of Yatsugatake (Mt. Yatsugatake), Akadake (Mt. Akadake) is clearly visible. Unlike Higashi Mt. Tengu-dake, the summit is covered with Japanese pines.

After a short rest, return to Higashi-Mt. Tengu-dake and descend further to the entrance of Shirasuna-shindo. At this point, turn left and descend steeply through the forest. It is all right if you rely on the tape and the paint mark attached to the branch. The place where it descends is Honzawa Onsen. If your schedule permits, you can stay at the most well-known hot spring inn in the Yatsugatake mountain range. From Honzawa Onsen, you will return to the outward route.
