In my younger days, when I would backpack through
Mt. Tateyama, seeing a rock ptarmigan would somehow
soften my heart. This mountain-dweller has been
in existence since the Ice Age.
Surviving the harsh mountain environment, this
precious evidence of life force gave me courage as I
trained in the mountains. I hope it continues to thrive
in the magnificence of nature. It is extremely critical
that each and every one of us trying to preserve this
bird maintain this awareness.
