Utsukushi-gahara

This is a plateau, a part of the Yatsu-gatake Mountains, at an elevation. It includes the highest peak, Ohgato with an elevation of 2,034 m, Mt. Chausu-yama at an elevation of 2,006 m, Ohgahana at an elevation of 1,998 m, and Mt. Monomi-ishi-yama at an elevation of 1,985 m. Buses from Suwa, Matsumoto, and Asama Onsen are available to the area. The view of the Japan Alps and the Yatsu-gatake Mountains is splendid. It becomes a great hiking place with a variety of Alpine plants in bloom during the summer season. In winter, many skiers visit the area. There are ranches around the Sanjiro area. In addition, Utsukushi-gahara Kogen Museum and Michi station locate in the area, which has established Utsukushi-gahara as a sightseeing resort.

Two courses which hike through the core part of Utsukushi-gahara are introduced here. One is a course that visits Utsukushi-gahara Kogen Museum, Siokure-iwa, and the Utsukushi-gahara Nature Preserve Center to learn about nature in Utsukushi-gahara. If you visit with your family, all family members may enjoy the course. Another course starts from Center house to Mt. Chausu-yama. You may find the hidden beauty of Utsukushi-gahara.
