Houo Three Mountains

They belong to the Kaikoma mountains in the South Japan Alps. All mountain areas are covered by biotitegranite. Mt. Kannon-dake, the main peak, Mt. Jizou-ga-take, and Mt. Yakushi-dake are called the Houo Three Mountains. Besides those three mountains, famous mountains such as Mt. Taka-mine, Mt. Akanuke-no-kashira, and Mt. Sunaharai-dake are also included within the Houo Three Mountains. They stand facing the Shirane Three mountains, therefore, it is known as the Shirane Three mountains lookout. This area of mountains can be entered throughout the year and is popular as entry level mountains of the South Japan Alps. A beautiful contrast between aged granite and Pins Pumila is on display at a ridgeline at an elevation of 2,800 m. Strong winds and heavy snow in the area has changed the shapes of some trees over the years. The view of the mountains in the area is fantastic. The easiest route for beginners is one from Yashajin pass. There are some mountain huts along the route and a wide variety of alternative routes are available.
