Access to Itoigawa

【Shionomichi　starting (and ending) 】

Itoigawa, the southernmost tip of Niigata Prefecture, is the starting (and ending) point of the JR Oito Line. Now, it is less than two and a half hours from Tokyo on the Hokuriku Shinkansen. It is also the trailhead for Mt. Amakazari-yama and other mountains in the Kubiki mountain range, as well as Mt. Shirouma, and it serves as the base for Renge Hot Springs. There was a major fire in Itoigawa in 2016 and the heart of the city suffered considerable damage. While reconstruction efforts continue today, the starting point of the Shionomichi Trail is also in the city center, about a 10-minute walk from the station.

If you drive, get off the expressway at the Itoigawa Interchange. There is parking around the station and along the coast, so there is no need to worry.
