【Akasaka/ Shibira trailhead for Hokke-michi Kouza-iwa and Mt. Nyugasa-yama】
The entrance to the ancient road Hokke-michi is Akasaka or Shibira. It is located along a narrow prefectural road from Takato in Ina City to Shibira Pass. The prefectural road runs along the Yamamuro River near Takato on the Tuetsuki Kaido road connecting Suwa and Takato, passing through a village called Itayama to the east and past the Azukizaka Tunnel. Passing Gumyouji Temple on the left, you will reach the village of Akasaka, and after another 10 minutes, you will reach the village of Shibadaira. It takes about 20-30 minutes by car from Takato. From Suwa, it takes about one hour.
There are parking spaces in both villages, so the basic approach is by car, but by public transportation, you can take a bus from Ina or Chino to Takato, and then take a cab from Takato. There are no restrooms at the trailhead, so please use them before heading up.
