針ノ木峠は佐々成政の冬の峠越えや百瀬慎太郎などで知られる山です。そして、近代登山史において多くの登山者に登られてきました。戦国時代のことがブームになると、わずかにここを歩く人が増えるくらいで、現在ではあまり登られることがなくなってようです。だからこそ静かな山歩きが楽しめるエリア。とも言えます。百瀬慎太郎を偲んで夏山シーズンの幕開けに「慎太郎祭」が行われます。針ノ木岳山頂は北アルプスのほぼ中央に位置し、広大な風景を堪能することができます。また、針ノ木峠に登る針ノ木雪渓は白馬の大雪渓と並び登山者に人気があります。
針ノ木岳：標高2,820m 登山
針ノ木雪渓を登ってアプローチする人の多い山。しかし、雪渓が利用できるのは例年9月中旬まで。それ以降は勾配の強い秋道(巻道)を登ることになります。雪渓歩はアイゼンを装着すれば初級者でも十分歩くことができますが、秋道は高低差がきつく中級者以上の人でないと厳しい道です。針ノ木峠からは槍ヶ岳や穂高の山並みが展望できます。ここに建つ針ノ木小屋は夏になると多くの人が訪れています。針ノ木峠から尾根道を辿ればわずかな時間で針ノ木岳に到着。眼下に黒部湖、正面に立山連峰が広がる展望自慢の山頂です。
